Members of the editorial team of Montgomery County Community College’s student newspaper, The Montgazette, won six awards in the 2012 Student Keystone Press Awards Contest, a statewide journalism contest sponsored by the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association Foundation.
Photographer and writer Norman Detweiler, Souderton, won four awards. He took first and second place in the photo story category; first place in the column category for his column, Norm’s Niche; and second place in the general news category.
Jocelyn Moye, Eagleville, The Montgazette’s editor for the fall 2011 semester, took second place in the personality profile category.
Graphic artist/designer Joshua Woodroffe, Souderton, received an honorable mention for the layout and design of the newspaper.
The Montgazette’s Faculty Editorial Adviser Harry Yanoshak praised the editorial team for their work.
“I’m pleased that The Montgazette has again received professional recognition for its articles, columns and photography. And I’m particularly pleased that the paper earned a Student Keystone for its re-designed layout,” Yanoshak said. “To put it plainly: the students rock. I see great things from our current editorial staff, too. They are truly talented and driven to put out an award-winning paper.”
The students publish The Montgazette on a monthly basis from August through May. For more information, visit http://montgazette.wordpress.com.
